Apex describes the PumpBuddy as a diaphragm activated, variable level, full flow valve, used in pump-fed water tanks or reservoirs, main or storage tanks, or as a control valve backup in rainwater harvesting. Weighted floats on an adjustable cord set the levels the valve opens and closes at, so the tank refills in longer cycles and the pump starts less often. Distributed in the US by Watts.

Standard tail: This is the standard-tail version and needs a tank fitting at the wall. Apex also builds a long-tail version (model PB34LT) whose extended inlet reaches through the tank wall without a separate fitting.

Keep it clear of the outlet: Apex specifies a minimum 8" (200mm) head above the valve and says to keep a 12" (300mm) head on the pump outlet at all times.
