Long tail: A long tail is an extended inlet that reaches through the tank wall. Apex notes on its long-tail valves that no separate tank fitting is required. The standard-tail version of this size is Apex model PB1.

Keep it clear of the outlet: Apex specifies a minimum 8" (200mm) head above the valve and says to keep a 12" (300mm) head on the pump outlet at all times.
