Tip: 17-gauge wire nails sit in the middle of the range -- a balance of holding power and minimal splitting for screen molding, small trim, and light panel assembly. At 1" it bites a full inch -- standard small-trim and panel-back work. For exterior or damp-location work, switch to a galvanized finish nail instead -- bright nails will rust.
