Tip: 17-gauge wire nails sit in the middle of the range -- a balance of holding power and minimal splitting for screen molding, small trim, and light panel assembly. At 3/4" it suits thin trim layers, screen frame assembly, and craft work without poking through 3/4" stock. For exterior or damp-location work, switch to a galvanized finish nail instead -- bright nails will rust.
