Tip: The 14-gauge stock carries heavier static loads on shelving uprights, equipment racks, and workbench frames. 24" cuts down well for small brackets, gusset plates, and equipment-mounting backers without much waste. For damp or outdoor exposure, add a coat of zinc-rich primer or galvanizing compound after cutting -- bare cut ends are the first place rust starts on zinc-plated stock.
