WEATHERGUARD GALVANIZED THREADED RODNational Hardware WeatherGuard threaded rod is hot-dipped galvanized carbon steel cut to a fixed length with full-length UNC threads. The thicker zinc coating from the hot-dip process meets ASTM A153 and is approved for direct contact with ACQ-treated lumber, marine and coastal environments, deck framing, and outdoor commercial work where thin electroplated rod would corrode quickly.
- Material: Hot-dipped galvanized steel, ASTM A153 compliant for thick zinc coating
- Treated-lumber approved: Resists ACQ, CA-B, and MCQ chemistry without rapid degradation
- Diameter: 3/8"
- Length: 36"
- Thread: 3/8"-16 UNC coarse, full-length rolled threads
- Working load: 1,700 Lb safe working load - do not exceed; not engineered for overhead lifting unless specifically rated
- Cutting: Hacksaw or abrasive cut-off wheel; thread one nut on before cutting so backing the nut off chases the cut thread clean
- Step-up: Outperforms zinc-plated rod for exterior, marine, and deck framing service; for fully submerged or chlorinated salt-water exposure step up to stainless
Tip: Light-to-medium suspended hangers, small-equipment anchor studs, light conduit and pipe hanger drops, small machinery mounts, and light structural ties in treated lumber. At 36 in. this is handy stock for cut-to-fit hangers and anchor work under about three feet. Pair with hot-dipped galvanized hex nuts and washers - mixing electroplated hardware on a hot-dipped rod sacrifices the corrosion advantage at the joint.
