Where to use 2-1/2": Heaviest trim and assembled millwork -- thick crown molding, two-piece base, jamb extensions, door and window jambs, cabinet installation onto framing, built-up mantels, and furniture assembly. 2-1/2" is the longest length the 16ga SB-1664FN-class nailer will drive and is reserved for thick trim or stacked layers where shorter nails would not anchor.

Tip: Set nailer depth on a scrap before driving final trim -- on softer paint-grade pine or poplar the head should set roughly 1/32" below the surface for a clean putty pull; on harder oak, maple, or pre-finished trim back the depth off slightly to avoid blowing the head past the surface. For exterior trim or any wet location use stainless or galvanized 16ga finish nails instead -- these bright nails will rust.
