Open mesh-back 1/4 sheet sandpaper for palm sanders. The mesh weave passes dust through to the sander's extraction port from anywhere on the sheet, so there's no need to align with a specific hole pattern - it works with every brand of palm sander on the market. Mesh-back also resists clogging on softwood, painted, and finish-loaded surfaces, extending sheet life over standard hole-punched paper.

Application: 220 grit is the standard pre-finish grit for paint and clear topcoats: smooths bare wood for a glassy finish and scuffs cured coats between layers to give the next coat a mechanical grip. On softwoods (pine, fir), 220 is also a good final stain grit.

Tip: Use light pressure - 220 cuts shallow by design, and heavy pressure burnishes the surface, which causes uneven stain absorption. Between coats of polyurethane, sand only enough to dull the gloss; you're scuffing for adhesion, not removing material. Vacuum and tack-cloth after every grit change.
