MODERN MASTERS METAL EFFECTS PRIMER 1 GALLONMetal Effects Primer (AM203, formerly Acid Blocking Primer) is a unique water-based acrylic primer formulated to block Metal Effects Patina Aging Solutions and Activators from reaching the metal, wood, or reactive substrate underneath. Ordinary primers let those solutions penetrate through to the substrate, which disrupts the desired patina color and damages the finish by bringing rust or tannic acids to the surface. It also blocks alkali salts, tannins, and acid salts from bleeding through into the oxidized metallic paint film.

- Water-based acrylic primer for use under Modern Masters Metal Effects Oxidizing Paints
- Blocks Patina Aging Solutions, Rust Activator, alkali salts, tannins, and acid salts
- Brush, roll with a 3/8" nap, or spray apply with airless or HVLP equipment
- Apply a minimum of two coats; recoat time is about 30 minutes
- Dry to touch in about 1 hour; wait at least 12 hours before applying Metal Effects paints
- Coverage: 320 sq. ft. per gallon (manufacturer published figure)
- Apply between 55 and 95 degrees F
- Cleans up with soap and warm water; do not freeze

Applications: Interior and exterior walls, moldings, trim, columns, doors, and railings, plus smaller pieces such as lamps, vases, and planters.
Tip: Bare aluminum, galvanized metal, and rusted or slag metal need a compatible specialty primer before the Metal Effects Primer goes on. Stir thoroughly before use and test a small, inconspicuous area before starting the project.
