Application Tip (3-1/2"): 16d-equivalent length, .131" diameter - the largest leg in most 21-degree pneumatic stick nailers. Targets the heaviest light-frame connections - sill plate to joist, doubled stud (king/jack) at openings, sole plate to floor, structural truss heel attachment, and code-required 16d connections per IRC R602. Confirm the nailer accepts a full 3-1/2" before loading.
Stick vs Coil Tip: 21-degree stick nailers feed faster on a long flat run but the magazine sticks out from the body and limits access in tight corners. For close-quarter framing inside stud bays or against blocking, a coil framing nailer feeds with a shorter magazine profile. Coil collation also packs more nails per reload (~300-350 vs 60-80 in a stick strip), but stick nails are typically cheaper per box.
