3M Aluminum Oxide Sandpaper combines tough aluminum oxide grain with a durable backing for general-purpose surface prep on wood, paint, metal, and plastic. Very Fine grit (around 220) is the grit you reach for at the end of a job - smoothing the surface for stain or paint, knocking down raised grain on bare wood, and sanding lightly between topcoats.

Tip: When sanding between coats of finish, use a light touch and vacuum or tack-cloth the dust before recoating - 220 grit removes coating, so a heavy hand will sand through to bare wood.
