Century's Cobalt Silver & Deming bits are made from M35 steel with 5% cobalt, so they cut extremely hard metals - including stainless steel - and stay sharper than plain high speed steel when boring large-diameter holes. The shank is reduced to 1/2", which is what lets a 3/4" bit run in an ordinary 1/2" drill.
