Zero Rust from Gemini Industries is a high-solids, phenolic-modified alkyd coating that controls rust by laying down an impermeable barrier at the steel level, keeping oxygen and moisture away from the metal. It is a single-package, air-dry, direct-to-metal coating that contains no lead or isocyanates, and sandblasting is not required.

• Direct to metal: for new and old steel, rusty surfaces, and partially rusted, partially painted surfaces
• Withstands 2,000 hours of ASTM B117 salt spray testing at 3.5 mils dry film (manufacturer testing)
• Apply by brush, roller or spray; airless spray equipment needs no thinning
• For best results apply two coats at 3 mils wet each, allowing at least 20 minutes flash time between coats
• Dry to touch in 30 minutes; tack free in 1 hour at 70 deg F and 50% relative humidity
• Apply when surface temperature is 50-95 deg F
• Topcoating is optional; outdoors the primer will chalk and fade, which does not affect its corrosion resistance
• Not recommended for submersion service or for galvanized steel
• Thinning and cleanup: VOC-exempt solvents such as acetone

Tip: Clean off dirt, oil and grease and remove loose scale, powdery rust and any mill scale first - hand tools are generally adequate. Black and red oxide give the best corrosion resistance, so use one of them as the first coat when you want a gray or white final color.
