Length selection: 1-5/8" is sized for double-layer drywall (two sheets of 1/2" or 5/8" + 1/2") or for thicker panels where deeper stud bite is needed. Commonly used in sound-dampening or fire-resistance assemblies.

Cupped vs ring shank: Cupped heads form a clean dish that takes joint compound flush and resists popping back through the mud over time.
