SHELTERSEAL SILL SEALER FOAM GASKET - 3-1/2" x 50 FTClosed-cell polyethylene foam gasket that seals the gap between the concrete foundation and the wood sill plate. Foundations are never perfectly flat and sill plates are rarely perfectly straight - the resulting gap is one of the largest single air-leak paths in a typical residential envelope. ShelterSeal compresses to fill the gap, blocks the air infiltration path, blocks capillary moisture wicking from concrete to wood, and discourages insects from finding a ready entry route. Width sized to match the bottom width of standard dimensional lumber sill plates.
- Width: 3-1/2" (matches the bottom width of nominal 2x4 sill plates)
- Length: 50 Ft per roll
- Material: Closed-cell polyethylene foam (does not absorb water or compost)
- Color: Foam tan / off-white
- Seals foundation-to-sill plate gap against air infiltration and moisture wicking
- Discourages insect entry through the foundation-to-sill gap
- Permanent service life - polyethylene does not break down under sustained compression or moisture exposure
- Also for use under door thresholds, around window frames, and at top-plate-to-double-top-plate joints in air-sealed construction
Tip: The 3-1/2" width is the right pick for nominal 2x4 sill plates, which are standard on most residential construction with 2x4 stud walls. Roll out the gasket along the top of the foundation, drop the sill plate on top, and anchor down with sill anchor bolts - the foam compresses to fill irregularities up to roughly 1/2". Use one continuous roll where possible; butt-join roll ends rather than overlapping. For 2x6 sill plates choose the 5-1/2" wide ShelterSeal version instead.
