ADVANTAGE SERIES CONVERTIBLE RANGE HOODAdvantage Series convertible range hood for free-standing or built-in 30"-class and 36"-class ranges. Two-speed 180 CFM blower clears smoke, steam, and odors from average gas or electric cooktop output without dominating the kitchen acoustically. Ships configured for ducted exhaust through a 3-1/4" x 10" rectangular collar (vertical through cabinet or horizontal through wall) with the damper and collar included; converts to ductless recirculating with the addition of an RF-34S charcoal filter (sold separately) for apartments and condos where an exterior vent isn't practical. Rocker switches control fan and light independently.
- Two-speed motor, 180 CFM exhaust
- 3-1/4" x 10" rectangular duct collar and damper included (vertical or horizontal)
- Convertible to ductless with optional RF-34S charcoal filter (sold separately)
- Aluminum grease filter RF-35S included (dishwasher safe)
- Independent rocker switches for fan speed and light
- One 60W A19 incandescent or 26W CFL bulb socket (bulb not included)
Selection Tip: 30" Black coordinates with black/slate appliance packages (KitchenAid, Whirlpool, GE Slate) and matte-black hardware kitchens. Shows dust more than fingerprints; quick weekly wipe keeps it sharp. Recedes into dark tile or stone backsplashes.
Install Tip: Mount with the bottom of the hood 24-30" above the cooking surface -- closer pulls more smoke but transmits motor noise into the room and limits pot/pan clearance. Use rigid galvanized 3-1/4" x 10" duct for the run; flex duct loses ~25% of the rated CFM per 90-degree bend and traps grease at the corrugations. Cap the exterior termination with a backdraft damper hood (not just a louver vent) so winter air doesn't blow back into the kitchen when the fan is off.
Lighting Tip: The socket accepts a 60W-equivalent A19 lamp -- a 9-12W LED A19 (warm white 2700K-3000K) is the modern pick: cooler running, longer life, and won't fade the hood's plastic lens over time the way an incandescent will. Avoid rough-service or high-wattage halogen retrofits; the lamp shroud is sized for general service A19.
Care Tip: Pop the RF-35S aluminum mesh grease filter and run it through the dishwasher every 4-6 weeks of regular cooking (top rack, regular cycle, no rinse aid -- rinse aid can stain the aluminum). Wipe the blower wheel housing once per quarter; built-up grease in the wheel adds load to the motor and noise to the hood.
Convertible Note: Out of the box, the hood is ready for ducted installation. To run ductless: add the RF-34S charcoal filter behind the grease filter, leave the duct collar uncapped (recirculated air discharges back into the kitchen through the top of the hood). Plan to replace the charcoal filter every 3-6 months of regular cooking -- a saturated charcoal filter stops absorbing odors and just becomes airflow resistance.
