CRESCENT SASH LOCK, BRASSTraditional crescent-style sash lock for double-hung windows. This rigid, cam-style lock draws the upper and lower sashes together when engaged, reducing rattle, improving the weather seal, and providing a positive latching point for routine security and child safety. Mounts on the meeting rails of the upper and lower window sashes and replaces worn, broken, or mismatched original-equipment sash locks.
- Traditional rigid crescent-style sash lock with cam-action latch
- Zinc die-cast construction with Brass finish
- Mounts on meeting rails of standard wood and vinyl double-hung windows
- Draws sashes together to eliminate rattle and improve weather seal
- Smooth crescent handle sweeps in and out of the curved keeper
- Mounting span approximately 5-5/8" long x 2-3/4" wide
- Mounting screws included in matching finish
Installation Tip: Mount the curved keeper half on the upper sash and the lever-and-cam half on the lower sash, both centered on the meeting rails. Close the window fully and dry-fit both halves so the lever sweeps cleanly into the keeper before drilling pilot holes. For old-house wood jambs where the previous lock chewed up the meeting rail, fill the old mortise with toothpick-and-glue or a hardwood plug before drilling fresh pilots so the new screws bite into solid wood rather than spinning in worn holes.
Security Tip: A single sash lock at the center of the meeting rail is fine for routine sealing and casual deterrence, but provides limited resistance to a determined pry attack. For accessible ground-floor windows, install two locks side by side toward the outer edges of the meeting rail, or pair this with a vent latch or window pin to limit travel when the window is cracked open for ventilation.
Note: Confirm meeting-rail thickness and existing screw-hole spacing match this lock's footprint before ordering replacements. Some older sweep locks used wider screw centers and longer bodies - measure existing screw spacing on the lower sash before assuming a direct swap. Choose a finish that matches the rest of the window hardware (locks, sash lifts, pulls) for a consistent look.
