SOUTHWIRE ALFLEX ALUMINUM FLEXIBLE METAL CONDUIT - 1/2" x 50 Ft

Type RWA reduced-wall aluminum flexible metal conduit (FMC) per UL 1. The continuously interlocked helical aluminum strip construction is lighter and easier to handle than steel FMC while still providing reliable mechanical protection for the conductors inside. The smooth interior bore lets wires pull through without snagging or scraping insulation.

  • Type RWA aluminum FMC - lightweight alternative to steel flexible conduit
  • Continuously interlocked helical aluminum strip resists impact and crushing
  • Smooth interior bore for easy wire pulling and reduced insulation wear
  • Trade size 1/2"
  • 50 Ft coil
  • UL Listed and CSA Certified under NEC Article 348 (Flexible Metal Conduit)
  • Workhorse general-purpose FMC for control panels, motor connections, vibrating equipment hookups, machine-tool wiring, and short branch-circuit runs through joists and stud bays

Steel vs Aluminum FMC: Aluminum FMC is lighter and resists corrosion in chloride and chemical-process atmospheres that attack zinc-plated steel, but unlike steel FMC it CANNOT be used as the equipment grounding conductor (EGC). Per NEC 250.118, steel FMC qualifies as an EGC only within specific length and overcurrent limits, and aluminum FMC never qualifies. Always pull a separate insulated or bare EGC through aluminum FMC.

3/8 in. Fixture-Whip Rule: Per NEC 348.20(A), 3/8 in. trade-size FMC is limited to use as a fixture whip - maximum run length 6 ft and conductors 18 AWG through 14 AWG only. For general branch circuits or longer runs, step up to 1/2 in. or larger.

Installation Tip: Use with FMC-listed connectors (set screw, squeeze, or angle types). Aluminum FMC is rated for dry indoor locations only - switch to liquid-tight FMC (LFMC) per NEC Article 350 for damp or wet locations. Per NEC 348.30, secure FMC within 12 in. of each box or termination and support the run at intervals not exceeding 4-1/2 ft.
