The DeWalt DW3728-5 U-shank reciprocating jig saw blade is a 36 TPI sheet metal blade made from high-speed steel (HSS) with a reinforced tooth design for long life. Sold five blades per card. Universal U-shank shape fits older DeWalt, Bosch, Skil, Black & Decker, Craftsman, and Porter-Cable jig saws (note: most newer jig saws use a T-shank - check your saw before buying).

Application: Use this 36 TPI sheet metal blade for very thin sheet (24 gauge and lighter), aluminum foil-faced board, light copper/brass strip, thin-wall tubing. 36 TPI keeps 3+ teeth in the cut on stock thinner than 1/16" where coarser blades would skip and grab.

Tooth Pitch Selection: Match TPI to stock thickness - lower TPI cuts faster in thicker material, higher TPI prevents tooth-skip and tear-out in thin material. Within the U-shank family: 6 TPI (DW3700) for 2x wood and thick plywood, 14 TPI (DW3724) for 1/16-1/8" metal, 24 TPI (DW3726) for sheet metal 22-16 ga, 36 TPI (DW3728) for very thin sheet 24 ga and lighter. Keep at least 3 teeth in the cut at all times.

Cutting Tip: Let the blade do the work - heavy feed pressure breaks teeth and burns the cut. For metal, apply a few drops of cutting fluid and use a low blade speed; for wood, run the saw at full speed and use a steady forward feed. Replace blades at the first sign of edge dulling - a dull jig saw blade wanders off the line and burns the work.
