The Irwin Speedbor short-length spade bit is designed for drilling in tight spaces where a standard 6" bit will not fit. The cutting head matches a full-size Speedbor, but the overall length is trimmed for access between studs, joists, and inside cabinetry. The blue-paint coating protects the body from rust, and the 1/4" quick-change hex shank locks into impact drivers as well as standard chucks.

Tip: The 1-1/2" diameter is the standard size for boring through joists to run 2" Schedule 40 drain or vent pipe (1-1/2" OD pipe fits a 1-1/2" hole snugly). Drill at a controlled speed and back the bit out frequently - a 1-1/2" cut takes a heavy bite and benefits from clearing chips between passes.
