TIGRE USA PVC INSERT 90 DEGREE ELBOW - 1" INSERT x MIPTThis Tigre USA PVC insert elbow connects polyethylene (PE) pipe to a downstream female-threaded fitting at a 90-degree turn. The barbed insert end pushes into the ID of black PE irrigation tubing and clamps in place, while the MIPT (male iron pipe thread) side threads into a brass or PVC female fitting, valve, pump port, or hose bibb. Standard issue for residential and light-commercial irrigation, well discharge, and cold-water service lines where the PE run needs to terminate into a threaded port.
- 1" barbed insert x MIPT (male iron pipe thread) connection
- 90-degree elbow configuration
- PVC Type 1 construction - chemical and corrosion resistant
- Fits black polyethylene irrigation and potable water tubing
- Meets ASTM D-2609 standards for plastic insert fittings
- For use with ASTM D-2104 Schedule 40 or ASTM D-2239 SIDR pressure-rated PE pipe
- NSF certified for potable water applications
- Cold water applications only - secure with stainless steel hose clamp (not included)
Installation Tip: Cut the PE pipe square with a tubing cutter or PVC shears. If the pipe is stiff (cold weather, recently uncoiled), dip the cut end in hot water for 30-60 seconds so the insert seats fully against the shoulder. Push the insert in by hand, then secure with a stainless worm-gear clamp or PE pinch clamp positioned over the second barb back from the shoulder. For buried or below-grade runs and agricultural mains, stack two clamps for redundancy. Wrap 2-3 turns of PTFE tape on the MIPT side before threading into the downstream brass or PVC port; hand-tighten then snug 1.5-2 turns past hand-tight - PVC threads strip easily if over-torqued, and overtightening on a brass female port can crack the elbow shoulder.
Selection Tip: Match the elbow size to the polyethylene pipe's pressure-rated ID. Main-line supply runs, multi-zone manifolds, pump-to-valve trunk lines, and longer laterals where 3/4" would lose pressure. SIDR poly pipe (ID-controlled) and IPS Schedule 40 poly pipe (OD-controlled) both accept this insert; the difference shows up in the clamp diameter, not the fit. Choose the Insert x MIPT version when the PE run terminates into a female-threaded port (valve, pump body, hose bibb); use the companion FPT x Insert elbow when the threaded side will accept a male nipple from an upstream fitting.
Note: Insert fittings are rated for cold water service only - do not use on water heaters, solar loops, or hot water distribution. Insert connections have lower burst pressure than solvent-weld; keep this elbow on zone laterals, pump discharge, or unpressurized drain rather than the house service main. For hot water or chemically aggressive service, step up to brass insert fittings or switch the run to PEX or copper.
